MARY DUGAN

"The Stitch ezi Frame is so easy to use - from putting my projects in, to finishing off my threads. It is easy on my back and so easy to carry with me."

Mary Dugan

MARY, taught by her mother, has been stitching since she was ten years old, is now a brilliant embroiderer. She is passionate about embroidery - loving the textures, the look created, and the challenge of doing new projects. She often uses designs by Helen Ericsson from South Australia and has studied under both her and Cheryl Robson. One of Mary's pieces on Australian Wildflowers hangs in the USA in a Washington Embassy residence. Others are used in promotions such as the 'Circlet of Flowers' on Doctors Flannel on the Stitch ezi Frame and 'The lamb with a swag of flowers' designed by Cheryl Robson which was used at the 2000 Sydney Royal Show as a wool promotion for the Australian Wool Corporation.

MARY'S EMBROIDERY TIPS

"To do perfect ribbon embroidery you should use short lengths of ribbon and a chenille needle that has an eye almost as long as the width of the ribbon. With one hand underneath and the other on top holding an extra needle use the eye to guide the ribbon through without twisting.

Neat bullion knots are achieved by using the eye of the needle to even the twists while pulling the bullion knot into place. The most twists I have achieved using this technique was 150 on the one needle.

French knots are very hard to keep uniform. Overcome this by keeping tension on the thread and holding the knot down with your free hand on the fabric."
